Early Life and Struggles

Prem Ganapathy was born in a small village called Nagalapuram in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu. After completing his 10th standard, he dropped out of school and moved to Chennai in search of a job. After working several jobs in Chennai and trying to support his family, he fled to Mumbai in 1990. Unfortunately, he had to face many challenges in his initial days in Mumbai. Ganapati had no money and did not know the local language. He could not find a job and was stuck. One day a Tamil family saw him and helped him find a job. Eventually, he got a job and washed dishes at a bakery. 

Ganapathi did not give up hope and started working in other restaurants and bakeries to earn money. He finally saved some money after two years and decided to start his own business. With a meager investment of Rs. 1000, Prem Ganpati started selling dosas. He rented a shop in 1997 and offered a variety of dosas to his customers. He wanted to stand out and do something different. In 2003, Ganpati opened its first outlet in a mall in Vashi, Mumbai. After this there was no looking back. From having no money to starting his own business, Ganapathi worked hard to make his dreams come true.

What set Ganpati's dosa business apart from the rest was their wide variety of dosas. They introduced dosas like Schezwan Dosa, Paneer Chilli Dosa and Spring Roll Dosa. Currently, their restaurants offer 105 varieties of dosa. As of 2005, Dosa Plala had outlets in 7 different locations in India. In 2008, Ganpati entered the international market and opened outlets in New Zealand. In 2011, they opened their first store in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Currently, the restaurant chain has 72 outlets across India, Oman, New Zealand and UAE. He changed his rupees. 1000 trade for Rs. 30 crores with hard work and determination.
