“Mexican Restaurants (Full Service)” Category


DALLAS, Texas – On The Border announced today that it made the Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500® list, considered the best and most comprehensive franchise ranking in the world. Ranked at #1 in the “Mexican Restaurants (Full Service)” category, On The Border was also listed as #377 overall.


The ranking achieved by On The Border highlights the successful growth made by the brand in the past year. In 2022 alone, On The Border had 3 new locations open, one in the Everland theme park in South Korea, bringing the brand’s total number of locations to 133 restaurants in communities around the world.

In Entrepreneur’s continuing effort to best understand and evaluate the ever-changing franchise marketplace, the company’s 44-year-old ranking formula continues to evolve as well. The editorial team researches and assesses several factors that go into the evaluation including costs and fees, size and growth, support, brand strength, and financial strength and stability. Each franchise is given a cumulative score based on an analysis of more than 150 data points, and the 500 franchises with the highest cumulative scores become the Franchise 500® in ranking order.

Since opening its doors in 1982, On The Border has made a name for itself serving authentic Tex Mex dishes and ice cold margaritas to communities throughout the country. The brand revamped its menu this past year, adding on items like Mexican Pizza and birria tacos, and seasonal specialties. On The Border has not only seen success serving its items stateside, but has also expanded well into South Korea through its partnership with JRW Inc. opening its 14th international location at the Everland theme park in October 2022.
