Manny & Olga’s is Willing and Able to Deliver 2,000 Pizzas

Georgetown University students take Manny & Olga’s offer to heart! Campus campaign underway to partake in the franchise’s offer to “Buy 1,000 pizzas and Get 1,000 pizzas free.

Founder Manny Athanasakis thought it would be humorous to add a new coupon to his latest menus -- Buy 1,000 pizzas and get 1,000 free. He never imagined that anyone would place an order of that magnitude. But, one man’s joke is another man’s dinner and the offer just might become a reality. Students at Georgetown University who saw the ad are running a campus-wide campaign to get 1,000 students together to place the order. As of today, 953 students have signed up and joined the pizza coalition. Founder Manny Athanasakis says, “Not to worry.” He’s willing and able to deliver 2,000 pizzas – he just requests a one-week notice so that he can make preparations for the order.

Wade Tandy (COL ’09) is pioneering the recruitment of Georgetown students, collecting volunteers via a Facebook.com group. Tandy’s initiative is paying off and soon the collective group will face the decision of what to do with 2,000 pizzas. Suggestions include hosting a huge pizza party, donating half of the pizza haul to charity, holding a campus-wide pizza eating contest and the ultimately unique, albeit messy, “pizza dodgeball” concept. Beth Murdock (SFS ’10) suggested holding a city-wide “pizza block party” with the hope of building “fraternity and unity” within the city limits. Whatever the fate of the 2,000 pizzas, one can rest assured that the age-old fraternity of a college student and his or her pizza will stand this test and there will be extra cardboard recycling in the District that week.

Yiannis F, the owner of the Manny & Olga’s franchise in Washington, DC is as unfazed by the challenge as founder, Manny Athanasakis. As Yiammis says, “you buy 1,000, you get 1,000 free, that’s the deal.” And, Manny agrees.

It might be a larger challenge to decide what constitutes the final pizza order. One thing is for sure – whether it’s Manny & Olga’s traditional Greek-style “White” pizza or their signature “Olga’s Favorite” pizza loaded with ground beef, fresh tomatoes, onions, green peppers, feta cheese, green and black olives and extra cheese or any of the other gourmet pizzas that Manny & Olga’s serves, the pizzas will all be hot, delicious and delivered to the door.

If pizza isn’t your craving, Manny & Olga’s menu is extensive – there are gourmet sub varieties, Italian and Greek specialty entrees and a great selection of salads from which to choose.

Manny & Olga’s is an expanding business currently seeking franchise owners to open new locations.

Franchise owners receive tremendous support, including a start-up marketing program, a training program, a comprehensive operations manual, on-site assistance, and telephone consultation.
