HomeVestors® Franchise in Macon to Pledge $1 Million to Rehab Pleasant Hill Community
MACON, Ga. - (March 15, 2006) - PRG Realty, L.L.C., a franchise for HomeVestors® of America, Inc., the company famous for its "We Buy Ugly Houses"® billboards, will pledge to invest $1 million to rehab homes in the Macon, Ga.-community of Pleasant Hill at a special ceremony 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Friday, March 24, at 2189 Third Avenue.
The event will coincide with the grand opening of PRG Realty''s refurbished offices at that location, a historical building in Pleasant Hill that was once Garvin's Grocery store, which the franchise has restored.
In attendance will be: Charles and Monya Rutland, owners of PRG Realty; John Hayes, president and CEO of HomeVestors; C. Jack Ellis, Macon mayor; Chip Cherry, president of the Macon Chamber of Commerce; Anita Ponder, president of the Macon City Council, and other city and state dignitaries. A ribbon-cutting for the building and special signing for the $1 million investment will take place at the ceremony.
"This pledge and this ceremony have very special meaning for me," Charles Rutland said. "Having grown up in this community and experienced the character and importance of this environment first-hand, I am driven to help revitalize the one-of-a-kind architecture and social significance that Pleasant Hill deserves. Our first gesture was rehabbing the building that now houses our office into something beautiful again that everyone in the area can enjoy. We want to renovate buildings, but we also want to help create an environment where people can renovate their lives."
"HomeVestors is all about making a difference in peoples' lives," said Hayes, who is traveling from HomeVestors' corporate headquarters in Dallas for the event. "We're very proud of the manner in which Charles and Monya Rutland use our business model to make a difference in the lives of people in Macon, Ga., and at the same time make a difference in their own lives. Our business helps build stronger communities, and due to the efforts of the Rutlands, HomeVestors will help build a stronger Macon."
Established in the 1870s, Pleasant Hill is one of few historically black neighborhoods listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, however, many of the houses that proudly represented one of the first areas in Macon where black residents could own a home now stand in disrepair.
PRG Realty, which has renovated more than 100 houses in Middle Georgia, considers affordable housing for local residents a top priority for its business. Nationally, HomeVestors franchise owners purchased more than 6,500 houses in 2005. It is the only real estate company of its kind that specializes in buying, rehabbing and selling single-family homes to improve existing neighborhoods.
